Throughout our history, OPACC has collaborated on behalf of our children/teens and our families with appropriate regional, Provincial and National bodies. We have supported, collaborated and had input into initiatives such as:

  • Development of Pediatric Oncology Working group report for the Ministry of Health (1994)

  • Participation in CCF National Conference (2000)

  • Participation in steering committee/cluster groups for POGO 5-year plan for Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (2005 and 2011)

  • Presentation of abstracts and posters at POGO Symposiums (2011 & 2012)

  • Supported the passage of new EI legislation to benefit parents who need to take time off of work to care for seriously ill children (2012)

  • Co-facilitated Parent Intervention Groups in collaboration with the Hospital for Sick Children (2012)

  • Oral presentation at SIOP Congress in Toronto (2014)

  • Past membership in the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organizations (ICCCPO), now known as Childhood Cancer International (CCI)

  • Associate Member of the Canadian Cancer Action Network (CCAN)

  • Development of Satellite Oncology program as well as long-term follow-up clinics in the Province

  • Development of Financial Assistance program for families of children/teens with cancer through POGO and CCS

  • Development of CCS pediatric handbook and children’s cancer brochure

  • Development of POGO handbook on provincial resources for families of children with cancer

  • Past representation on POGO psycho-social committee, CCS Pediatric Advisory committee and the Childhood Cancer Foundation Candlelighters Canada board
