Silent Heroes - Parents as Caregivers to Seriously Ill Children

No one can imagine what it means to be a parent to a child with cancer – until they become one. Each year in Canada on average some 880 children and youth between the ages of 0 to 20 will be diagnosed with cancer. Treatment and survival rates have improved over the past few decades with nearly 75% of children diagnosed expecting to reach five year survival rates and longer. Nevertheless childhood cancer still remains the primary killer disease among children, its causes a mystery, and for each family affected, the beginning of a long and dark journey that can take years.
