"The Shadow & The Candle," "The Sugar Shack Mystery," and "Midge Finds Her Forever Home" are written by Dennis Scherer, a grandfather of a child diagnosed with ALL from Guelph, Ontario, to support childhood cancer organizations (including OPACC) through the Yellow Moon Mouse Children's Campaign.

Story behind the first book, as told by Mr. Scherer:

"The Shadow and the Candle came about after our grandson Logan at the age of four developed leukemia (ALL) in 2018. My wife Joyce and I spent endless days and nights with our grandsons Logan (now seven) and Blake (now nine) helping the family through this trying time. A regular habit with the boys was storytelling. However, instead of reading stories all the time, we created and made up our own. Logan asked me one day if we could put one of his favourites into a book. This will be the first of fifteen stories I have created through this process.

I began researching local Illustrators and Editors and I have partnered with Robin Baird Lewis to complete this book.  Robin, after reading my script, assured me that this could be a children's book.  After several meetings and discussions, I decided to pursue this in order to support sick kids and fight childhood cancer.  Robin may be best known in the Children's genre of books with her international book "Red Is Best." She completed the editing and illustrations for "The Shadow and the Candle." Robin has created distinctively styled images for 20 titles, published variously by Annick Press, OUP, Random House, Fitzhenry & Whiteside, Western Psychology Press, and for self published authors using General Store Publishing Co, Wishima Press and Friesen Press. Willow's Wonderful Wigs

100% of the net profits of sales of this book sold through OPACC go directly to support OPACC!

"Willow's Wonderful Wigs", written by Canadian children's author Susan Ross, is a children's picture book that addresses a child's hair loss from chemo in a gentle way (no medical information with the exception of saying the little girl has cancer and will lose her hair due to chemo). This story is upbeat, funny, and has a happy ending! Includes instructions for a craft to make your own mouse. Recommended for ages 3-8. The book is dedicated to a childhood friend of the author's who passed away from leukemia.

Excerpt: "Sydney’s best friend is a mouse named Willow. Willow initially uses her creativity to have hair just like Sydney’s. But when Sydney gets sick, Willow is determined to help her beloved friend deal with this trying time in her life."
