OPACC Gift Cards Amenities Fund
This fund was first established by a generous donation from the Trillium Automobile Dealers Assocation (TADA) in 2018.
Additional funding was provided by Love Your Melon in 2019 and the Used Car Dealers Association of Ontario (UCDA) in 2020
The fund seeks to provide financial assistance to in-hospital childhood cancer families by providing gift cards for necessities such as gas, groceries, and dining. The program is managed by our Parent Liaisons at The Hospital for Sick Children ("SickKids") in Toronto and Credit Valley Hospital ("CVH") in Mississauga (where the Parent Liaison program is currently established). It provides gift cards in the care packages given out to all newly diagnosed in-hospital families that register through our Parent Liaisons at those treatment centres, as well as to childhood cancer families that are not newly diagnosed but urgently needing financial support (these will be considered on a case-by-case basis). Please note that, since newly diagnosed in-hospital families have priority, access to the gift cards is available only in person through our in-hospital Parent Liaison program.
Examples of gift cards offered to families include:
Gas cards - transportation expenses are a huge cost for newly diagnosed families frequently traveling to and from the hospital from their home communities;
Grocery cards - can be used at a variety of supermarkets;
Ultimate Dining cards - for busy families to have a meal out at a variety of popular chain restaurants while they are in the hospital or in transit to a treatment centre
The gift cards are purchased through FundScrip, that way OPACC gets back a portion of the sales!
