Inside Ride 2012

SAVE THE DATE! OPACC and the National Inside Ride Tour are teaming up again on Saturday, September 15th 2012! Get ready to raise the roof as we raise the awareness and support for kids and teens with cancer in your local community.

Start time: 2:30pm

Location: Square One Shopping Centre (northwest parking lot at the corner of Rathburn and Duke of York), 200 Rathburn Road, Mississauga

100% of donations raised local stay local. The funds raised during this event will go to OPACC’s overall fund for our programs and member groups.

Our Parent Liaison, Susan Kuczynski, has created “Susan’s Team OPACC” which you can pledge or join! You can also volunteer or even create an OPACC team of your own.

Instructions on how to create a team or join a team can be found here.

Transportation will be provided free of charge for our interested families from Sick Kids to Square One and back that day, thanks to the generous donation of Can-Ar Coach who has provided us with a free roundtrip coach bus! Details on pickup times and exact locations forthcoming. If you need transportation, please email us at info@opacc.org to be placed on the list.

Please read this open letter to our families and supporters for more information.

Follow the National Inside Ride Tour blog here to keep up with all the action and see what the event is all about!

Summary of how you can participate:

1. Create a team of your own on the Toronto Inside Ride website (click the “Sign Up” button) and fundraise. Have fun and be creative! Teams of up to six cyclists each ride and compete for medals for Best Team Spirit, Best Team Costume, Top Team Mileage, and Fundraising Awards, while fast-paced lively music and an emcee keep the energy flowing!

2. Join OPACC’s team as a cyclist here (click the “Join this Team” button). Although encouraged, if you are a family of a child with cancer, it is not mandatory to fundraise in order to participate. If you wish to do so, please contribute at whatever level you deem appropriate; there are no minimums required (other than a $20 minimum for a Tax Receipt). You are welcome to also just come out and show your support! Let’s fill up this bus with our OPACC families to go show support for our cyclists and volunteers!

If you would like to join us as an Ambassador Family to represent and cheer for OPACC at the event (you do not need to fundraise), please click here to register on the Ambassadors, Survivors, and Warriors Team. Click on the “Join This Team” button to register if you would like to cycle for fun! Also, those who feel comfortable will be invited to say a few words at the opening ceremony on your experience with OPACC and our Parent Liaison at Sick Kids.

3. Donate to OPACC’s team here (click the “Sponsor this Team” button); donations of $20 or more are eligible for a Tax Receipt.

4. Sign up as a volunteer here (click on the “Sign up” button).

After the Inside Ride at Square One, join us at the National Day of Awareness and Action for Childhood Cancer at HTO Park East in Toronto – OPACC will have a booth, and there will also be food, entertainment, inspiration, and fun!

We are also looking for volunteers to help at OPACC’s booth. If you would like to volunteer specifically for the Awareness Day event please send us an email at info@opacc.org (not through the Inside Ride website).

FYI from Childcan for those attending the HTO Park event:

There will be an LED screen to be able to upload pictures and videos to play throughout the day. Families can provide their child/family pictures digitally via a USB key or download from a digital camera card to Childcan staff to share. Volunteers will also endeavour to take pictures throughout the day and loop into the screen as well. Also, the Hero Wall will be available for families to hang a regular picture if they choose and they can take home at the end of the evening.

Traffic note: The Gardiner Expressway will not be open in either direction as it has been shut down for fall maintenance for two days. If you are traveling to the event, you will want to take the Lakeshore Road cut-off down to the park area. Lakeshore Road runs parallel to Queens Quay West and you can then turn right off of Bathurst or one of the other roads along there and get to Queens Quay and the park. Please share this road advisory with others who may be coming but are not aware.

Parking for HTO Park: The parking lot directly across from the park is $20 per day, CASH ONLY. Other lots are available within walking distance of the park.
