Poor Mental Health Among Survivors of Childhood Cancer—Risk Factors and a Call for Intervention

Despite consistent evidence suggesting high rates of physical and psychosocial morbidity among survivors of childhood cancer, debate has persisted: are those who are diagnosed with cancer as children, adolescents, or young adults ([CAYAs] 0 to 25 years old) at higher risk than their siblings or peers for depression, anxiety, suicide, or other mental health disorders? The article by Lee et al1 in this issue of JAMA Pediatrics provides the most definitive answer to date: yes.
