When: Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8:45am to 3:00pm Where: Sick Kids, The Daniels Hollywood Theatre, 1st Floor Black Wing

Siblings of children with cancer often hover in the background, courageously sacrificing their own needs, activities, and rites of passage, while their families struggle with life threatening issues. They are often overlooked and their needs minimized as their parents and healthcare professionals focus on the ill child. They often experience an assortment of emotional reactions to living with childhood cancer that may include sadness, loneliness, worry, jealously, and fear. Some siblings are at risk for problematic behavioural changes that may include withdrawal, acting out, sleeping/eating issues and somatic complaints. Through our programming we will aim to enhance siblings’ adjustment to living with cancer within the family, re-enforce their importance within the family and provide well deserved recognition.
